Why do we all make Wishes

Wishing is significant in human life. It may be defined as a hope or yearning for something. Wishes make their presence felt from folklore to literature. While fiction is all about supernatural wishes, sometimes an entire tale revolves around wishes. Classically, the wish provider is a Genie, spirit, or similar entity after all who can ever forget the Aladdin's oil lamp or a container closed with Solomon's seal. Some cultures encourage people to "make a wish", such wishing upon a shooting star at night, tossing a coin into a wishing well, blowing out the candles on a birthday cake, or breaking the wishbone of a cooked turkey. When times are tough, wishes offer the much needed comfort.

So drop by one-wish.co.uk and make your WISH today!

Hope to see you there soon.

Kind Regards
Mike.

Africa Schoolhouse Foundation

One-wish is very pleased to have come across the Africa Schoolhouse Foundation www.africaschoolhouse.org/ who are committed and endeavouring to bring the standards of schooling and life to a self sustainable level for the less fortunate Children and Villages of “Our World” to a level that most of us all take for granted.

Please drop by www.africaschoolhouse.org/projects.html to see their latest project; Ntulya School House. 100% of any donation made will go directly to the Ntulya project and benefit the Children directly.

“Africa Schoolhouse Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization that is a public charity for U.S. tax purposes. We are committed to building sustainable school communities for children in underserved areas of Africa. Our goal is to aid the progress of learning using modern technology and environmentally conscious methods while safeguarding the traditional teachings of cultural heritage"

Mission Statement

This is one the most absolute worthwhile cause’s I have come across whilst operating my website. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone associated with the Africa Schoolhouse Foundation for their commendable and honourable work and drive to make the world a better place for all those who are less fortunate.

An extract from their latest newsletter, December 2009

Some of the young children of Ntulya (town. village)

Choo (pronounced "cho") is the Swahili word for toilet. In Ntulya, we have begun construction on eco-friendly; sustainable, self-composting pit latrines for our campus of 14 classrooms and 10 teacher houses. The school enrolment of 630 students requires 30 latrines for both girls and boys; the teachers living on campus in 10 individual homes will require one latrine each. These hygienic and innovative toilets are simple: while one pit is in use, the other is left covered. Within two years, the waste in the covered pit will dry up, ridding itself of pathogens, so that it's suitable for use as clean and usable crop fertilization!

And while this topic may seem an odd one for the holidays, remember to be especially grateful if you're blessed with proper and clean sanitation today - because many people (one-third of the world's population - 2.5 billion folks), unfortunately, are not.

Just before you go please take a moment to consider

6 in every 10 Africans lack access to a proper toilet.

In sub-Saharan Africa, 322 million people lack access to clean water and 463 million people lack access to adequate sanitation.

Together, unclean water and poor sanitation are a leading cause of child mortality: an estimated 5,000 children die daily from diarrhoea, which is spread through poor sanitation and poor hygiene. Universal access to improved sanitation could reduce diarrhoea-related morbidity by more than a third.

Studies have found that about half of girls who drop out of primary school in sub-Saharan Africa do so because of a lack of separate toilets and easy access to safe water

...and, please help spread the word.

December has finally arrived, Christmas only 24 days away.

One-wish raises the bar in November as my ONE-WISH Pledge campaign reaches nearly 2,500 registered wishes. This is absolutely FANTASTIC news….. Exceeding my original expectations. Thank you so much to all of you who have kindly visited my website and left your wish. Each and every visit is very much appreciated, without you one-wish would not be the success it is today.

For the tenth month in a row LOVE continues to dominate the one-wish chart for the most popular category for wishes placed during November, with a whopping 23% of all wishes. Money follows in second at 18% and Family nipping in third place with 15%.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish my very good friend, Tom Rees, the very best for his new venture. Tom has recently launched a new blog http://dontdiecrying.com/ and a new website http://soberlivingsearch.com/ both are a must visit. I know Tom will love to hear any comments or suggestions you may have.

Finally, I would like to ask for your help to help me to help others by supporting my one-wish pledge campaign…all you have to do is make a wish!

The ONE-WISH Pledge

For every single person that makes a wish between the 18th July 2009 – 31st December 2009 I promise I will donate 1p per wish to the following charity: Make a Wish Foundation UK It may not sound much but hopefully it will soon add up if everyone reading this makes a wish and shares this with their friends!

Thank you,
Hope to see you there.
