I am often asked this question but I didn’t develop my website to make money, I developed it for the following two reasons, firstly to raise awareness of the Make-A-Wish Foundation who are an absolutely wonderful charitable world wide organisation, who’s sole purpose is to grant magical wishes to children and young people aged 3-17 fighting life-threatening illnesses and secondly, to reach out to everyone and anyone from the different corners of “our” world, to give them a place where they can share their innermost wish, giving each and everyone a sense of hope, letting them know that they are not alone. I hope eventually I would be able to establish a network of people and organisations who would help me to help those who genuinely need the help of others.

2011 ONE-WISH and beyond

First and foremost may I wish everyone a Happy New Year and may all your wishes, and dreams become a reality in 2011…….

2010 has been another fantastic year for one-wish, not only have we received over 7,000 wishes from different people, from different countries from around “our” world, but it’s given me the opportunity to meet and make many new friends, friends I would not have known if it wasn’t for one-wish.

I would just like to take this brief opportunity to mention a couple of friends I have met through one-wish who are both exceptional and wonderful people, Wendy and Tom Rees. Wendy is a BEST selling author of six books whose latest book is “Dog Lover's Daily Companion: 365 Days of Tips, Tricks, and Techniques for Living a Rich Life with Your Dog”. Wendy amazingly manages to find the time to run her own website wendynanrees.com along with a blog which is a must visit especially if you like our four legged friends. The blog is called adogsvoyagearoundtheworld.blogspot.com and is an absolutely fantastic, fun and informative site for both adults and children alike.

Tom is a very creative guy with a vision, a vision to help others in need and is the creator and founder of reesnetworks.com who have focused their attention and developed the largest single database of sober livings and halfway houses in the US soberlivingsearch.com with the sole purpose of helping those who truly need the help and support of others. Tom also runs his own blog dontdiecrying.com and once again I must recommend a visit to all of Tom’s sites as I believe just like I did that you will certainly gain a different and clearer perspective and understanding of life outside “our” own.

Both Wendy and Tom have become very good friends, and I am glad that thanks to one-wish that I have had the opportunity to get to know and meet these wonderful people in person.

I would also like to make a special mention for Wendy’s sister, Carol Ann Emquies who is the chairman of the Africa Schoolhouse Foundation who are committed to building sustainable school communities for children in underserved areas of Africa. Their goal is to aid the progress of learning using modern technology and environmentally conscious methods while safeguarding the traditional teachings of cultural heritage.

Thanks to Carol and her team at the Africa Schoolhouse Foundation the children of Ntulya Village now enjoy a much higher standard of education than they may otherwise have received. It’s absolutely wonderful and very inspirational to see the continued development of the facilities now being made available at the Ntulya Primary School which in turn is giving every single child the same opportunity and chance in life as those of our very own children. This is such a worthwhile organisation, and it is the children who are the true beneficiaries of such a wonderful organisation. Now back to the events on one-wish.

Events have continued to move at a pace here at one-wish during the year. We have had over 2,000 people subscribe to the one-wish mailing list to be kept in touch with the latest happenings and offerings on one-wish.

We all have our up’s and down’s and if anyone says differently then they are lying. What makes a difference is how we channel those times into helping others.

I have been fortunate enough to meet Tom Rees who is not only a great person to be around but is also the founder and motivation behind an incredible website with the sole aim of helping others in need. Tom’s site is www.soberlivingsearch.com which is the place for any individual who is in need of help..

So if you or someone you know suffers from a drinking problem, drugs or depression please just let them know there are people out there who are trying to help, help which is free to find. It will only take a minute of your time but may well save the life of a friend. .

This may well sound really strange....

Did anyone else see bright orange lights in the sky over Didsbury (UK) last night...... at around 11 - 11:30pm, there were 3 evenly spaced orange glowing lights travelling in a north/west direction. At first I thought they might have been helicopters or even planes, but they seemed to be travelling too close together and there was no noise or additional flashing lights. These 3 lights disappeared into a cloud, but then they were closely followed by another 2 again flying close together and then by another 3, then 1 by 1, about 12 in all over a 30 minute period. This was so surreal and very strange... and before you say it, no, I hadn't been drinking last night.

Upon doing some research this morning on the internet this is certainly not the first occasion of people seeing these bright orange lights, there have been many similar sightings throughout the UK especially in and around Manchester over the past couple of years. If you don’t believe me just Google the above, it’s actually very fascinating to read all the reports.

I know this post is not in relation to my website, but it was something I experienced last night, and I wanted to share this with my readers.

Wishes play a pivotal role in hope, appreciative inquiry, resilience, savoring, purpose, love and goal setting. It is not always possible to guess the cause of happiness or the reason behind a particular demand. As a result, people often land up wishing for the “wrong” things. Wishes reveal a lot about the nature of a particular individual, and interestingly act as connections between human beings. Irrespective of the root, or community similar wishes bring people together. Actually, there are some concrete reasons underneath the perspective of consciousness that continuously ambush every effort if left unchanged. It would be no exaggeration to affirm that every endeavor kick starts with a wish. Human beings are born with an innate aptitude to create what they want. What is required is the understanding on how to "turn on" this ability.

Our World

Every year I ask just like many of us do…… what can I, one person do to make a difference?

This year I’ve decided to do something about it, I’m going to make that difference. I will show that just one person with the help and support of all the people who are reading this, their family and friends that in fact together working as a team we can and will make that difference, so here goes…..

Yes, we all know that currently the world over is experiencing economic hardship – more commonly known to you and I as the “Credit Crunch” and not to mention the severity of our Winter weather but these harsh times will end and it’s inevitable that the future will become brighter and these past turbulent years will be written into our history!

The future of “Our World” is in the hands of our Children it is our Children who will care for us as we grow older, it is our Children who will write our laws and bring prosperity and freedom to our lands, but lets not forget there are many children out there in fact millions who need our help, help in helping them to gain the knowledge and understanding of “Our World” a world which is fast becoming as one, thanks to our modern day science and technologies. Who would have thought as little as 20 years ago or even 10, maybe 5 years that today you and I could see and play games with our friends living thousands of miles away in America, China etc.. from our living room in our own homes or from the airplane which can take us around “Our World” in a matter of a single day! I want to use this technology to reach out to everyone and help bring together the people of our world, people who can and will help make that difference to those who need it the most, our Children.

There are Children who do not have the same opportunities that our children may have, they do not enjoy the same comforts as we may have and most of all they may not have the essentials of food, shelter and basic education which we all take so much for granted. So this brings me to my one-wish aim. I want to raise £1,000,000 ($1,500,000) to start a building program to build a school for the less privileged Children in as many continents of “Our World” as possible starting in Africa, then on to the America’s, Asia and more… I would like to equip these schools with the modern technologies that will help the Children achieve their own goals, which in turn will lead to a better world for everyone no matter of their race, colour or creed and bring unity to all!

I am certainly under no illusion, this will be a mammoth undertaking but all I can say I will certainly give it my best as I believe with all your help, advice and working closely as a team we will and can achieve this and more for the benefit of the less privileged Children of “Our World” our future!

Choo (pronounced "cho") is the Swahili word for toilet. In Ntulya, we have begun construction on eco-friendly; sustainable, self-composting pit latrines for our campus of 14 classrooms and 10 teacher houses. The school enrolment of 630 students requires 30 latrines for both girls and boys; the teachers living on campus in 10 individual homes will require one latrine each. These hygienic and innovative toilets are simple: while one pit is in use, the other is left covered. Within two years, the waste in the covered pit will dry up, ridding itself of pathogens, so that it's suitable for use as clean and usable crop fertilization!

And while this topic may seem an odd one for the holidays, remember to be especially grateful if you're blessed with proper and clean sanitation today - because many people (one-third of the world's population - 2.5 billion folks), unfortunately, are not.

Just before you go please take a moment to consider

6 in every 10 Africans lack access to a proper toilet.

In sub-Saharan Africa, 322 million people lack access to clean water and 463 million people lack access to adequate sanitation.

Together, unclean water and poor sanitation are a leading cause of child mortality: an estimated 5,000 children die daily from diarrhoea, which is spread through poor sanitation and poor hygiene. Universal access to improved sanitation could reduce diarrhoea-related morbidity by more than a third.

Studies have found that about half of girls who drop out of primary school in sub-Saharan Africa do so because of a lack of separate toilets and easy access to safe water

I really wish that I could help my parents out financially. They are in so much debt and bought a house 6 years ago but haven't been able to redevelop it properly because of financial issues. There have been so many repairs to it that the house is becoming a shambles. I also wish for my mother and step dad to stop smoking and to become more active, for the benefit of my younger brother and for themselves. I wish that they will lead a more stable life in the future when they grow old. I also wish for my auntie to not have a miscarriage this time as she has been trying for a baby for over 10 years. She is finally almost 3 months pregnant and I hope she stays that way! Wow August what a fantastic month

There’s been so many great things happening I’m just not sure were to begin……… so I’ll start here…..

I have become very good friends with a wonderful lady in America who has not only become a very special and dear friend to me, but who has kindly offered to grant a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation to a child, anywhere in the world to play host on Wendy’s Animal Talk Radio show in America…… Words cannot express just how much gratitude I have for Wendy and for what she is doing, this sums up exactly everything I am trying to achieve with one-wish and this wonderful act alone makes all the time an effort so worthwhile. For those of you who do not already know I operate my website http://www.one-wish.co.uk/ as a hobby, as I currently hold down a full time job as well.

Wendy herself is a very remarkable person…….she has overcome many obstacles in her own path from suffering severe dyslexia and ADHD. Wendy and her family were told that Wendy would not graduate high school. However, whenever Wendy is presented with obstacles in her life, it kicks her driving engine into gear and she charges ahead to prove all the naysayers wrong. In 2000 Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer, which forced her to take a break from her career to focus all her energy on her recovery. Today, Wendy is happy to say she is cancer-free and working on her worldwide internet radio show called Wendy’s Animal Talk. Extract : A Dog’s Voyage Around the World™

I am a 6 year old Yorkshire terrier from London, England. My Great Great Great Grandfather was from Yorkshire England which is very north of the country. I was born in the city proper, a town called Chelsea also better knows to you Americans as Kensington.

When my mother was recovering from breast cancer, she told my father that she had to come to London to get me. I was just a little less than a pound and my mum and I got on a very large, what I know now, is an airplane. I didn’t know it then, but I do know now after many transatlantic flights. We are a family that travels quite a lot.

When I first got home, I was quickly introduced to my two new brothers. My oldest brother, Governor, the black lab, may God rest his soul, and Senator, the chocolate lab. It wasn’t until some years later when Governor went up to be our guardian angel that our Little Man chihuahua, who speaks Spanish and we have a little a language problem because I speak the Queens tongue. Nonetheless, we have a great time swimming in the ocean and in the pool. I hear my mum often telling people that the Labradors have webbed feet and are supposed to swim, but that I and Little Man are not supposed to swim, but are supposed to sink as we don’t have webbed feet. But let me tell you, that we live to swim and we love to go on Papa’s yacht.

Every summer, we go back East to Grandmother and Grandfathers home in the Hamptons. We spend the entire month of August there. Lucky for me, I get to fly with Mum in the cabin as always. Poor Senny, he loves his crate, but he seems to go somewhere else. He tells me it’s quite comfortable but is loud and has a hum to it. He says it doesn’t matter because he knows where he is going and he is going to the beach for a month and nothing could be finer than to be living at the beach for one month. And let me just tell you that Grandmother and Grandfather have two Labradors, Chloe and Luke, that we love to play with and our Tata Liz has a poodle named Rupert that loves to swim and go on the yacht with us too.

So, welcome to our blog. I hope you will join us for the next 12 months as we get ready to go on our voyage around the world. My mum is going to take her radio show and a camera crew with us so you will be able to hear us on the radio, and they call it VOD (video on demand) to see little things that we do at different locations around the world. My Tata Louise is going to help me with these blog entries & many Pictures as I can take J a couple of times a week from different places in the world and of course, while I am here in the United States. Great News! one-wish has been aired on live Radio in Los Angeles!

Thanks to a great friend of mine one-wish has been aired on a live radio station in Los Angeles. The show Wendysanimaltalk has a captive audience of 150,000 and is aired live every Tuesday 1 – 2pm PST (UK 9pm Tuesday evening). The station which has an audience of over a 1,000,000 listeners allows you to download an MP3 version of the program for up to 3 months after the show, to enable you to listen to the show in your own time and at your convenience.

I've just added a new feature called Google friends connect to my homepage, allowing visitors to join my website as a member of one-wish....it's pretty cool I think.

What an Excellent Month (July) for ONE-WISH

Wow! Love for the sixth, yes sixth month in a row continues to dominate the one-wish charts for the most popular category for wishes placed during July, with a whopping 28% of all wishes. I am glad that most of the time my wishes come true. My team wins tournaments even though we are not the strongest team, my girlfriend finally talks to me after several days of silence, in fact there are countless such situations where surprisingly my wishes have come true. Whenever there is something which I find unattainable, at least for the time being, I make a wish to achieve it sometime in future.
